Postpartum Care in Hilton Head

The weeks that follow giving birth should be filled with ample bonding time with your new baby. They also mark an integral stage of healing both physically and mentally. Your body has been through a lot and even if you experienced a pregnancy free of complications, you need time to rest and recuperate. Riverside Women’s Care provides necessary postpartum care in Hilton Head to ensure the healing process is going smoothly.

During your follow-up visit, your health care provider will assess your physical health. We will ask how you are feeling emotionally as well as how you are adjusting to life with your new baby. We encourage you to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have regarding breastfeeding, weight loss, exercise, sex after pregnancy, and more.

Postpartum Bleeding

Postpartum bleeding, also known as lochia, is to be expected after giving birth. It is your body’s natural method of shedding the extra blood and tissue in your uterus. It will be at its heaviest for the first few days and then will taper off until it stops. Use sanitary pads but refrain from using tampons. If you are concerned about postpartum bleeding, or are experiencing excessive bleeding, contact us immediately.

Postpartum Depression

It is completely normal to experience the “baby blues” for a few days or a couple of weeks after you give birth. This is different than postpartum depression, which is a more extended period of time marked by symptoms that include anxiety, crying spells, mood swings, sleep disorders, irritability, and difficulty bonding. Feeling this way is not your fault and it can be treated. We can connect you to the help that you need to overcome postpartum depression.
